Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes:

Virtual Caveats:

  • CDE: I don’t have a CDE in this clinic. If you have need of a CDE, you may need to seek one through your primary care office.
  • Pump: If you are on an insulin pump, you will need to be tech-savvy (I will not be able to make changes on your pump in virtual visits). If you need hands-on assistance, better to see an in-person endocrinologist.
  • We can set up data-sharing between your pump or sensor and the clinic to be used at appointments.
    • Libre Clinic Code: Enlighten
    • Dexcom Clinic Code: Enlighten
  • Issues with foot infections or pump site infections may require you to seek care with an in-person clinician.

Clinic Expectations:

  • I generally recommend insulin pumps.
  • I have extensive experience with Medtronic, Tandem and Omnipod pumps.
  • If you are interested in a different pump, we can learn about that too (together).
  • I support patients who follow ketogenic/low-carb diets in Type 1 Diabetes.
  • We can also explore new emerging therapy options as they develop!
  • I can see you monthly, quarterly, bi-annually or annually (hoping to minimize disease and co-pay burden, but recommending that you meet the requirements of your insurance company).
  • Annual labs, eye exam and foot exam are recommended

Type 2 Diabetes:

Virtual Caveats:

  • CDE: I don’t have a CDE in this clinic. If you have need of a CDE, you may need to seek one through your primary care office.
  • Pump and sensor users will need to be tech-savvy.

  • I generally prescribe highly-effective non-insulin medications, with a goal of avoiding insulin or helping people get off insulin.
  • If you still need insulin, I can prescribe it with injections or insulin pump.
  • If available, Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) can be very helpful, and I’ll try to help you get access!
  • Annual labs, eye exam and foot exam are recommended

Diabetes in Pregnancy:

Clinic Expectations:

  • In most cases visits recommended every 1-2 weeks.
  • Continuous glucose monitoring highly recommended

Other Diabetes

We’ll work together to arrange genetic testing, prescribe the appropriate therapies, etc.
